Mommy’s Lactation Cookies
This might be too much information for some, but I know this will benefit so many mom’s out there. I had to post this.
Us mommy’s will do anything for our babies. I went back to work full-time and instantly worried about how the stress of work would affect my milk supply. It didn’t take long to realize stress does slow milk production down. I had to find new ways to boost it up so that I wouldn’t have to start buying formula or have to give up nursing and pumping altogether. After much research I found that Brewer’s Yeast , Mother’s Milk hot tea, and old fashioned rolled oats would help me keep my production up. Next week will be 6 full months of strictly “My Milk” – From birth to 2 months she would eat 8-10 times per day. After 2 months she slept through the night and now eats 7-8 times per day. She is now eating 43+ ounces per day. Happy to say baby girl is gaining her goal weight of 1/2 pound per week and starting a little oatmeal cereal with my milk. I have no goal in mind for how long I will keep going, but I assume the workload and traveling will determine if I can keep up with her needs and keeping my stress level down. My first overnight away from home was to Arizona. I left the house balling my eyes out. I drove to LAX, parked my car, took the flight, and pumped at the AZ airport as soon as I landed. I stuck the milk in my ice chest and drove an hour to the hotel. When checking into my room I reached into the fridge and it was hot. I called the front desk and they had a mechanic come up who said it was broken and would bring me another one. I was an emotional wreck and started crying again. Away from my 3 month old at the time, hormones going crazy, and nothing was going right. I pulled it together, got the fridge cold enough and continued stocking the fridge with milk until my AZ trip came to an end. On my way home, I loaded all the milk up in the ice chest and when I got to the airport through security easily, the plane was delayed. Of course it was. Nobody could put the milk in the fridges at the airport. One server offered to give me a large bag of ice and would replenish it until I boarded my plane. She saved me. All in all, it worked out. And every trip so far, is tough but I get through it and I bring home just as much milk as she drank while I’m gone, sometimes more. I keep telling myself this is the best thing for her. I got this!
